The Golden Ball award is one of the three players awards which is presented to the best player at each FIFA World Cup final for the best performance in the whole tournament. The first FIFA Women’s World Cup Golden Ball award was presented in the 1991 edition of the tournament which was held in China. It was also the first FIFA Women’s World Cup. But, the first FIFA World Cup Golden Ball award was awarded in the men’s 1982 FIFA World Cup to an Italian forward Paolo Rossi, for his exceptional performance in the entire tournament. As the Golden ball award was already included in the men’s World Cup. So, when the FIFA Women’s World Cup was first held in the year 1991, Golden ball award was also included to be given to the best player for best performance in the entire tournament.

FIFA Young Player Award
The best player in the competition who is under the age of 21 receives the FIFA Young Player Award. Based on the player’s performances during the entire tournament, the FIFA Technical Study Group selects the Best Young Player of the competition.
