The Golden Ball award is one of the three players awards which is presented to the best player at each FIFA World Cup final for the best performance in the whole tournament. The first FIFA Women’s World Cup Golden Ball award was presented in the 1991 edition of the tournament which was held in China. It was also the first FIFA Women’s World Cup. But, the first FIFA World Cup Golden Ball award was awarded in the men’s 1982 FIFA World Cup to an Italian forward Paolo Rossi, for his exceptional performance in the entire tournament. As the Golden ball award was already included in the men’s World Cup. So, when the FIFA Women’s World Cup was first held in the year 1991, Golden ball award was also included to be given to the best player for best performance in the entire tournament.

For Golden Ball Awards, players were shortlisted by the FIFA technical committee and the winner among the shortlisted players were voted by the representatives of the media. For those who finishes second and third position for most outstanding players in the vote receive they will get Silver Ball and Bronze Ball awards respectively.

FIFA Young Player Award

The best player in the competition who is under the age of 21 receives the FIFA Young Player Award. Based on the player’s performances during the entire tournament, the FIFA Technical Study Group selects the Best Young Player of the competition. The FIFA Young Player Award was first awarded in the 2011 edition of the tournament. It is given to the best player of the tournament who is under 21 years of age at the start of the calendar year (i.e. on or after 1 January)
