England and Denmark will continue their 2023 Women’s World Cup campaigns on Friday morning, with the Lionesses set to face their toughest challenge yet in Group D. In their opening match, England defeated debutants Haiti 1-0 on Saturday, thanks to a first-half penalty from Georgia Stanway. Denmark, on the other hand, have had a successful start to their tournament, winning 1-0 over China PR in their first match.

As both Lionesses and Danes started their FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 campaigns with a 1-0 victory.
In their 1-0 victory over China PR, the Danes had only two shots on target, with one of those coming in the last 15 minutes and resulting in the winning goal in the 89th minute via Amalie Vangsgaard.
England had 11 shots on target, This was the highest number of shots on target in a FIFA Women’s World Cup match since 2011. The defending European champions, the Lionesses, have won all six games at the tournament last summer.
With Sarina Wiegman at the helm, England have developed into one of the most powerful teams in women’s football, winning the European Championship last summer. In total, Wiegman has led England to just one loss in 33 matches across all competitions (W 26 D6), and that was a 2-0 defeat to Australia in a friendly last April.
On the other hand, Wiegman’s record as a coach in the Women’s World Cup has been outstanding, losing just one out of her 20 matches in the Women’s European Championships and the World Cup (winners of the other 19), with the only loss coming in the 2019 Women’s World Cup final against the United States when Wiegman was in charge of the Netherlands.

The two sides have met 17 times down the years, with England having won eight matches and Denmark six, as well as three draws. Friday’s match in Sydney will mark the first time these two teams have faced each other in a FIFA World Cup fixture.

Prediction
Denmark, ranked 13 in the world, is undoubtedly a danger. Since the Finalissima in April, when they defeated Brazil on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Wembley, England has not scored from open play.
