Tesla is offering free charging on all electric vehicles in Europe today to mark the 10th anniversary of its Supercharger network in the region.
The one-day-only promotion is available from 8am to 10.59pm local time on August 29, 2023. To take advantage of the offer, EV owners simply need to plug in their cars at any Tesla Supercharger station in Europe that is open to all electric vehicles.
The first European Supercharger station opened in Norway in 2013. Since then, Tesla has expanded its network to over 13,000 individual Superchargers at over 1,000 locations across 36 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
According to Tesla, the free charging event is “a way to thank our customers for the support they have given us over the last decade and to encourage more people to drive electric vehicles.” The company also states that the event is an opportunity to “test out the network and significantly expand charging options” as more than 70% of Tesla’s Supercharger system is now available to all EVs.
The promotion has been welcomed by EV advocates, who say that it is a “great benefit” to all EV drivers. James Court, chief executive of the Electric Vehicles Association, said: “Tesla’s Supercharger network has been a point of envy for many EV owners across the UK. We look forward to the continued opening up of existing sites to all electric vehicles in the UK. This is a great benefit to all EV drivers given their widespread coverage and reliability.”
Decarbonisation Minister Jesse Norman said: “Electric vehicles are a key part of the UK’s transition to a prosperous green economy. I am delighted that Tesla are investing in EV charging and infrastructure that will benefit all EV drivers through its new public rapid charging hub. The Government is making it easier than ever to own an electric vehicle, most recently by introducing new regulations to improve the ease of charging an EV, but it is private investment that will ultimately make the difference.”
The free charging promotion is part of Tesla’s “electric summer” celebrations, which also include a new referral program and a series of roadshows across Europe.
