The USWNT 2023 Women’s World Cup Roster was announced on Wednesday, July 21, 2023, with just one month until the USA opening game of the Women’s World Cup 2023 in Australia and New Zealand. The final roster of 23 players who will represent the United States are revealed by Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski. The US final roster for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup features three goalkeepers, seven defenders, six forwards and seven midfielders.

The US Women’s national team final roster for Women’s World Cup 2023 consists 14 players who are making their World Cup debuts and nine players on the team have lifted the World Cup trophy before. Three of those players will be playing their fourth World Cup β€” forwards Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe and defender Kelley O’Hara. For two players will be playing their third World Cup β€” goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and her Angel city FC teammate veteran midfielder Julie Ertz also made the cut after returning from an injury in April. Four players will be playing their second World Cup β€” defenders Crystal Dunn and Emily Sonnett and midfielders Lindsey Horan and Rose Lavelle.

US Women’s World Cup 2023 roster also includes young forwards like 18-year old Alyssa Thompson , 21-year old Trinity Rodman and midfielder Savannah DeMelo, who has not played for the senior national team yet. The last time an uncapped player was selected on the U.S. Women’s World Cup roster was 20 years ago.

Last date to submit for final roster is due on July 9, Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski said he would make no public announcement of alternative players before the due date.

“In terms of alternative, we are not going to have any public announcements,” he said. “But we do have names in place in case something happens in next 30-35 days.” said Andonovski

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne, Shaquille O’Neal, Megan Thee Stallion, Mia Hamm, and many others from the worlds of sports, music, art, and film are just a few of the famous people who helped reveal the 23 names on the roster.

Some of the celebrities presented individual players, such as Lil Wayne introducing winger Crystal Dunn and Taylor Swift referring to striker Alex Morgan as “a friend” and a “massive fan.” Megan Thee Stallion announced Megan Rapinoe, and called her “The Legend.” “She has shined for years with the women’s soccer team, and she’s going to continue to do so at this year’s World Cup. Congratulations, girl, and bring home another title!”

Morgan said “I was really surprised to see Taylor announced me but all the other amazing celebrities, influencers and people so influential in the soccer world announcing the roster was pretty cool, I give U.S. soccer props for that. I think they nailed it with Taylor announcing me. I was very happy about that. She had some really nice things to say and I feel like we’ve supported each other a lot, so it was really great to see that.”
