South Africa Announce 15-Member Squad for Cricket World Cup 2023

The South African Cricket Board has named a 15-man provisional squad for the 2023 International Cricket Council Men’s World Cup in India, with regular One Day International skipper Timba Bavuma leading the way. Eight players have been included in the squad for the first time in their international careers.

One of the most notable inclusions in the squad is right-arm pacer Gerald Coetzee, who made his international debut earlier this year. Coetzee has impressed in his two ODI appearances to date, taking five wickets, including a three-wicket haul on his debut.

The squad also includes experienced batters such as Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Rassie van der Dussen. Wicketkeeper-batter de Kock has announced his retirement from ODI cricket after the conclusion of the World Cup.

The pace attack will be spearheaded by Kagiso Rabada, and includes the likes of Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi. Spinners Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi are also included in the squad, and are expected to play a vital role given the subcontinental conditions in India.

South Africa will kick off their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on 7 October at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Prior to that, they have warm-up games scheduled against Afghanistan on 29 September and New Zealand on 2 October.
