Olivier Giroud’s opening goal a minute before half-time and Kylian Mbappe two goals later on see reigning champion France eased into the World Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over Poland on Sunday.
Kylian Mbappe set up a history-making goal for Olivier Giroud, who’s opening goal of the match was his 52nd for his country, passing Thierry Henry to become France’s all-time record Goal Scorer.
Mbappe’s strike in the 74th minute killed off any prospect of a Poland comeback and he netted again at the injury time i.e. 90+1 minutes
to move to nine goals in just 11 World Cup appearances and he could well grab the World Cup Golden Boot for this tournament.
On the other hand, Poland Captain Robert Lewandowski got a consolation at the death for Poland from the penalty spot, but their World Cup has now ended.
France march on to the quarter-finals and are on course to become the first team to successfully defend the World Cup since Brazil 60 years ago.
They will face England in the quarter finals after England defeated Senegal in their Knockout out round match by 3-0.
Mbappe returned as one of nine changes following their inconsequential defeat by Tunisia,
with goalkeeper and captain Hugo Llorisalso coming back to win his 142nd cap. That saw him equal the record for most France appearances

France clear their lines at one end before Giroud releases Dembele on the counter. The winger cuts inside from the right flank and feeds Mbappe in space.

90’+9′ GOAL! Poland! LEWANDOWSKI CONVERTS!!!! 3-1!!! Lewandowski scores with his second effort to end his tournament with a consolation goal. He does a stutter-step as he did with his first attempt, but on this occasion he fires his effort into the bottom-left corner.
