History of Chocolate :

The history of chocolate dates back to more than 3,000 years to the Maya, Toltec, and Aztec people who prepared a beverage from the fruit of the cocoa bean. The Maya considered chocolate to be the food of the gods, held the cacao tree to be sacred, and buried dignitaries with bowls of chocolate. Cocoa seeds were considered so valuable that they were even used as a form of currency. Back in those days, flavorings in chocolate were scarce and it was consumed as a bitter drink. Too bitter for European taste, the mixture was sweetened with sugar when introduced first to Spain

Spain was the earliest European country to incorporate chocolate into its cuisine, Christopher Columbus took cocoa beans to Spain after his fourth voyage in 1502, it reached Italy in 1606 and became popular in France with the marriage of the Spanish princess Maria Theresa to Louis XIV in 1660.

I wish that each day of your life remains sweet just like your favourite chocolate… lots of love and happiness on chocolate!

In Modern era , Many present day companies which are still popular have started their operations in the 19th century C.J. van Houten of the Netherlands, patented in 1828, developed a process for obtaining “chocolate powder” by pressing large amounts of cocoa butter from ground and roasted cocoa beans. In 1847, the British company Fry and Sons mixed cocoa butter, a by-product of pressing, with chocolate liquor and sugar to make edible chocolate, and in 1876, Daniel Peter of Switzerland added milk powder to make milk chocolate. Spikes in flavored, hard and coated chocolate-based treats followed.

Founded in England in 1868, Cadbury is one of today’s leading chocolate brands. Twenty-five years later, Milton S. Hershey founded Hershey’s, which is today one of the largest and best-known chocolate brands in the world. Nestlé started operations in the 1860s and has grown to become one of the largest food companies in the world. What started as a beverage has grown into a currency and grown into one of the largest industries today, not only generating income and jobs for hundreds of thousands of people around the world, but also producing the food so many of us love!
